Welcome to Qualimer
Shellfish from a reliable address. That is what we stand for. Our mussels and oysters come from A-zones: the Waddenzee, Oosterschelde and Grevelingenmeer. Our production areas and the areas used to flush sand and other impurities out of our mussels and oysters are strictly supervised by the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA). To a large extent, nature itself determines the quality of our final products - and we do the rest. In addition to our own shellfish and algae, we also purchase and sell products from other companies - but only from the very best. This is how we guarantee that our products are always top quality. Our product quality is further assured because we are IFS 6 'higher level' certified.
Food safety is guaranteed by our own quality department, the SGS Laboratory and the NVWA. We source our mussels from A-zones. The NVWA takes samples of the water and the mussels for analysis every week. If samples from a specific production area demonstrate excessively high values of toxins, the NVWA closes the area concerned as a preventive measure. These checks, in addition to our own quality systems, enable us to guarantee food safety.
Our company is a genuine family business, the Vette family having been at the helm since 1880. The fifth generation is now coming into the picture. Our strength lies in our belief in sustainability and our long term vision. Our top 15 customers have not been our customers for more than 25 years for nothing. Sustainability is, of course, evident in our products. We are both Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and BIO (SKAL) certified. We depend on nature for our livelihood, so we have to take good care of the environment. The members of our family are actively involved in all the links in the company chain and, as a result, we have a good overall picture of the entire business and can live up to expectations when it comes to the quality of our products.
Our mussel cultivation business has been using this method to collect mussel seed since 2001. We were true pioneers in this field. It is impossible to imagine the mussel cultivation industry today without MCIs and we are proud to have been instrumental in the development of this innovation. What is more, the government has rewarded us with more space on the Waddenzee for our efforts.
Our packaging concept, which entails vacuum-packing mussels in pure salt water, is also innovative. We are unique in this respect! We have patented this packaging and have the technology in house for it. The advantages of Seafresh Pack over conventional Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) are as follows:
Taste the difference yourself and you will understand why we are so proud of our packaging.
Our mussels are not packed immediately after sorting. They are first transferred to basins filled with cooled and purified Oosterschelde water. The mussels stay here until just before we pack them and are then transported from these basins to the various packaging departments by means of a first-in, first-out system. Thanks to this patented system, our mussels are always in the best possible condition when they go into the packaging!
