Carpet clams are perhaps better known by their French name 'palourdes'. The texture of their shells is reminiscent of that of a carpet, hence the name. Their meat is tender and very subtle in flavour, sometimes being likened to a peppered artichoke. Carpet clams look rather like flattened oval cockles. Our carpet clams come from France.
