Packaging

Mussels
All our mussels (apart from the traditional jute sacks) are packed in leak-free trays and under vacuum. After all, this means the mussels stay fresh for longer!

We use both consumer packaging and bulk packaging. The bulk packaging is mainly suited for the catering industry.

With regard to our consumer packaging: we make both 'dry' vacuum packaging and vacuum packaging filled with water. We are particularly proud of our water packaging! Thanks to our unique packaging method – that we developed ourselves – our mussels retain their freshness and taste en route to the consumer. There is no better mussel packaging!

Oysters
Oysters are still packed manually(!). Most of the oysters are packed in the traditional packaging: a wooden oyster basket. In the basket, the oysters are laid with the rounded side downwards. This means the liquid stays in the shell. We then fill the basket up with seaweed in order to maintain the moisture level in the packaging. Moreover, the oysters are closely packed, thus preventing them from opening too soon and drying out. Besides the traditional packaging, we now sell leak-free (vacuum) oyster packaging. This consumer-friendly packaging contains fewer oysters and is watertight.
