To let for meetings, cooking workshops and demos.
Welcome to our fully renovated mussel shed on the Havendijk with its wonderful view over the Oosterschelde. It is a located a few minutes' walk from Vette & Verhaart BV (Qualimer). You can feel the many years of unremitting labour which has taken place in this mussel shed - it is tangible - and you can taste our heavenly products too! It is the ideal spot for an important meeting, an inspiring cooking workshop or a relaxed social get-together.
In 1946, Jan Vette built a 'modern' mussel shed on the Havendijk. Ten million kilos of mussels were packed here every year, uncooled and unsorted, in jute bags weighing 50 kilos and destined for Belgium and France. A little while ago, Jan Vette's grandchildren transformed this old mussel shed into a room for tasting sessions, demos and cooking workshops. We also let the room for meetings on a regular basis.
How do I cook a lobster? What is the best way to open an oyster? What dishes will our own unique Zeeland sea lavender best compliment? In our mussel shed, and under the supervision of a chef, you can learn how to prepare our splendid regional products: from Zeeland wine to Oosterschelde lobster, from marsh samphire to oysters and (of course) Zeeland mussels. You can follow a cooking workshop with a group of up to 12 people. And if you don't fancy cooking yourself but would like to enjoy our delectable products, a tasting session is a great alternative.
The mussel shed is eminently suitable as a meeting room. A dedicated room, measuring 80 m2, has been set up on the first floor for this purpose:
Downstairs: 125 m2 cooking space, upstairs: 80 m2
We organise demonstration days for wholesale traders or professional users on regular basis. In a relaxed atmosphere you can get up close and personal with our products, our packaging (including our unique Seafresh Pack) and the story behind the products - from our fishing methods to food safety. We finish off with a tasting session, of course. A real treat!
