Mouth-watering meat, full of flavour
Crabs can be recognised from their striking sideways movement. Unlike other crustaceans, crabs do not have a visible tail - their underside is, in fact, their tail. They can dig themselves in incredibly fast. Around 38 different species of crabs can be found in Belgium and the Netherlands, all of which reproduce in the sea. Fresh crab meat is ideal for making dishes for festive occasions. The meat is delectable, which is not surprising because crabs feed on delectable ingredients - such as oysters.
The meat from the claws of our edible crabs is every bit as good as lobster. Not to mention the meat in the carapace. There is a big difference as regards price, so we recommend crab meat as an excellent alternative. Our smaller green crabs are very versatile too, being particularly suitable for making bisque. The crabs we catch are not merely bycatch; we only take mature specimens out of the water, young and pregnant crabs are going back into the sea.
